El Yunque Rainforest

El Yunque is the subtropical rainforest in northeastern Puerto Rico. It is the only tropical rainforest under the U.S. flag!

We drove as far up to the top of the rainforest as the road would go. From there we hiked for about an hour and a half to get to the very top. We were so glad to see the last sign!

At the peak we saw ruins that look like an old church with a cross engraved in the stone.

Diana, at the entrance to the tower. Here it shows the part that looks like a castle.

It was a clear day and no rain.

On our way down, we stopped at Mt. Britton Tower.

Do you see the white dots? They are flowers!

As we hiked, the forest changed due to the increased amount of wind and rain. The top is where the dwarf forest is located. The pictures below show the different vegetation as we wandered back down the trail.

Now time for the waterfalls!
